The 68 runners taking part in this year’s race were greeted with near perfect conditions for running. The race enjoyed a keen interest from the spectators following last year’s record breaking edition. Although no records were broken this year all the runners enjoyed the race and most headed to the beer tent for some well-earned refreshments afterwards.
Deeside’s James Espie won the race after overhauling Nic Hammett of Milton Keynes Distance Project on the steep ascent of Craig Coillich. James returned to Monaltrie Park to finish in 17:57 followed by Nic in 19:23, with the top 3 being completed by Sam Griffin 20:10. The male category results were M40 Stuart Pringle of Deeside, M50 Ayron Comber of Deeside, M60 Alan Smith of Deeside.
Deeside’s Jill Stephen won the ladies race in 21:23 and was followed by Deeside’s Eilidh Campbell 23:42 and Metro’s Debbie Greig 25:12. The female category winners were F40 Alison Smith of Edinburgh AC and F50 Pauline Lamour of Cosmics.
We also welcomed the return of Steve Carr, who won the race in the late 1980s. Now running in the M60 category Steve clocked a very respectable 27:47 to finish 3rd in this category.
