SHR Insurance Role Description
This is a key role within the Scottish Hill Runners (SHR) Committee, offering a great opportunity to engage with race organisers (ROs) across Scotland and play a vital part in the ongoing success and safety of our sport. The role is supported by the SHR Committee and provides a unique chance to contribute to the smooth running of races throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Insurance Coordination
    Manage the insurance process for SHR-affiliated races (approximately 125 races per year). This includes:
    • Receiving and responding to insurance requests submitted via the SHR website.
    • Confirming insurance cover and, where necessary, requesting additional details (e.g., risk assessment or route map) — particularly for new races or where significant changes/issues have occurred.
  • Guidance and Support
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SHR Health & Safety guidelines.
    • Proactively update ROs on relevant guidelines, including seasonal variations (summer/winter).
    • Provide occasional support to ROs in the event of race incidents or insurance-related queries.
  • Insurance Renewal
    • Organise the annual renewal of SHR’s insurance cover through the broker, with support from the SHR Committee.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Keep abreast of developments in insurance and safety guidance from related bodies such as the Fell Runners Association (FRA).
  • Process Improvement
    • As part of SHR’s web development project, review and update the existing insurance request form to enhance user experience and improve engagement with ROs.
